Do you feel like an imposter? Like you don’t deserve your own success? Do you feel like others think you’re a fraud?

You may have a case of Imposter Syndrome — something that 70% of all people have at one time or another. Let’s recognize the signs and steps you can take to heal.

So What is Imposter Syndrome?

Imposter syndrome is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when you don’t feel like you deserve your accomplishments. You might feel like you don’t belong, don’t deserve your success, or are “out of place.” You may also live in a constant state of paranoia, wondering if anyone will expose you for being a fraud.

People with imposter syndrome are unable to internalize success. While other people receive positive feedback that makes them feel good, a person with imposter syndrome perceives praise as an overestimation of their abilities.

It’s something that can affect anybody, from highly accomplished professionals to students. But the effects of this syndrome can be devastating and can lead to a drop in performance and satisfaction, as well as an increase in anxiety and depression.
